THE Problem of Modern Terminology in The Islamisation of Knowledge

Abstract

يتناول هذا البحث إشكالية المصطلحات الحديثة في مشاريع أسلمة المعرفة، باعتبارها أحد أبرز التحديات المعرفية التي تواجه الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر. يهدف هذا البحث إلى التعرف على مفهوم المصطلحات الحديثة بين السياق الغربي والإسلامي، والكشف عن الإشكالات الناتجة عن نقلها دون تفكيك دلالي ونقدي. اعتمد البحث على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي باستخدام تحليل المصطلح لتحليل أبرز المصطلحات الحديثة المتادولة في أسلمة المعرفة. وقد تم التركيز على مصطلحات مثل: الأمة، الدولة المدنية، الديمقراطية، الأصولية، الرأسمالية، كنماذج تمثل الاختلاف بين حمولة المصطلح الأصلي وسياقه في الفكر الإسلامي. وخلص البحث إلى أن الإشكالية الرئيسة لا تمكن في ألفاظ المصطلحات نفسها بل في خلفياتها المعرفية والفلسفية الوافدة في السياق الغربي والتي قد تتعارض مع التصور الإسلامي للكون والإنسان والحياة. وأظهر البحث أن النقل غير النقدي لهذه المصطلحات يؤدي إلى خلط بين المفاهيم الإسلامية والمفاهيم الاجتماعية والسياسة الحديثة، مما يسبب اضطرابًا في الدلالة وضعفًا في المرجعية الإسلامية.

Abstract

This study addresses the problem of modern terminology in projects of Islamization of knowledge, considering it one of the most significant epistemological challenges facing contemporary Islamic thought. The research aims to examine the concept of modern terminology across Western and Islamic contexts, and to uncover the problems that arise when such terms are transferred without semantic and critical deconstruction. The study employs a descriptive-analytical methodology, using terminological analysis to investigate the most prominent modern terms commonly employed in the discourse of Islamization of knowledge. Particular focus is given to terms such as ummah, civil state, democracy, fundamentalism, and capitalism, which serve as examples of the divergence between the original semantic load of these terms and their contextual usage in Islamic thought. The findings reveal that the central issue does not lie in the lexical form of the terms themselves, but rather in the epistemological and philosophical backgrounds imported from the Western context—backgrounds that may conflict with the Islamic conception of the universe, humanity, and life. The study demonstrates that the uncritical adoption of these terms leads to confusion between Islamic concepts and modern socio-political notions, resulting in semantic disruption and weakening of Islamic referential authority.
